News - Winter Activity Taster

3 February 2008

Thick flakes of snow descended from the heavens in their billions, just in time to create the perfect winter scene for Champsaur and Valgaudemar's winter activity taster day.

I arrived with Annie, my two year old just in time to negotiate a ride on the dog sled (we hadn't booked) and Annie was in seventh heaven, "doggy doggy doggy, luge, luge (french for sledge) , run run run, vit vit vit (quick, quick, quick)".

After far more difficult negotiations to drag Annie away from the doggies we then went on a little nordic walking outing with Fabrice, one of the mountain guides. The scenery was out of this world - trees drooping under the weight of the snow draping their branches and sparkling in the winter sun.

Then it was time for an interesting local cocktail made from argousier (a local mountian berry) juice, some sort of alcohol and ...? It was very nice anyway, and was a good aperatif for the sausages and soup that came afterwards!

After more huskies and a go on Fred's sled, we were ready for the ice climbing.... I know it's not eally suitable for two year olds but we went along anyway and wathce dht eolder children work their way up the waterfalls! Very impressive!

All in all a really amazing day out for the family and a great little introduction to the world outside the pistes!
