The Trail Decouverte 17km and 500m of ascent
Have a look at the
map of the trail decouverte route.
The Trail Decouverte is the perfect length for a first ever trail race. With 17kms and 500m of ascent this is a trail that most average runners and fit walkers can enjoy.
It is also a great opportunity for supporters of runners in the big race to have a go but still be there to cheer on their friends. Or even for competitors of the big race to have a warm up - if they are mad enough!!
It starts on the eve of the bigger races at 5pm from St Leger Les Melezes and takes you up in to the hills with views over the Gap valley before doing a loop to bring you back to Ancelle. You should arrive just in time for the pasta party!
The first 4 kms take you gently up through the larch forest above St Leger Les Melezes before traversing round and down to the plateau where the village of Ancelle (and your first refreshment stop) is situated.
From Ancelle you have a short flattish section before the main climb up to the ridge which will take you up to the Croix de St Philippe 1706m - your main objective for the race.
There is a refreshment stop half way up and one on the top - to give you a chance to stop and admire the views.
After the croix de St Philippeyou continue along this beautiful ridge to the col de Moissiere before the big descent back to the village of Ancelle.
The pasta party starts at 7.30pm so you should have plenty of time to do your race, shower and join in the fun!
