Top Ten Places To Stay In French Alps

The French Alps is one of Europe's most popular holiday destinations and it’s not hard to see why when you look at the fantastic scenery and skiing facilities that are on offer. People from all over the world come to try out the fine cuisine, walk through the fantastic mountain ranges, try new and crazy outdoor activities and of course ski. So with all these people heading to the area each year where are the best places to stay?

Our top ten list comprises of not just hotels but also camping spots, hotels, bed and breakfasts, self catering and gites. This is because we wanted to list places that give you easy access to the best attractions and activities and have a unique feel to them. Anyone can stay in a standard hotel but to really experience the French Alps its best to take in accomodation places that offer something unique.

  • 1. Le Val Des Sources

    This one comes in at number one in our list for one reason. That is authenticity. The hotel features fine dining with home made French cuisine using local ingredients. The hotel also typifies the architecture of the region and features local artwork throughout the hotel. The scenery around the hotel and its facilities such as a swimming pool, volley ball court and steam room makes it a cut above the rest.


  • 2. Camping – St Leger Les Melezes

    This is truly a magnificent camp site that is located in the ski village of St Leger Les Melezes. As far as camp sites go this one is truly breath taking. The camp site has its very own swimming pool, bar, snack bar and Jacuzzi facilities. The location is also ideal as it is right next to the ski slopes. The village also is a great place for hiring equipment and cathing up with fellow skiers.


  • 3. Bed & Breakfast – Le Chalet Des Alpages

    One of the most luxurious bed and breakfasts in the country and is situated at the meeting point of the three main valleys. Located in the village of Poligny the bed and breakfast has one of the finest outdoor hot tub and sauna room. The newly built property is built in a traditional wooden chalet style and has an impressive 2000 square meters of grounds. A truly stunning place.


  • 4. Gite – D'Etape Les Paris

    Although this is essentially low budget accomdation the experience and the people you meet in this place will literally change your life. Ideally suited for young people the gite features dormitory type sleeping arrangements and a beautifully vaulted dining and lounge area. The place has a modern feel to it but is in keeping with the area. The hosts are also extremely friendly and will make you feel very welcome.


  • 5. Self Catering – Gentians Bleu House

    A stunning house set in the southern slopes of the valley near Pont Du Fosse. The house is decorated in a modern style and is perfect for families of up to five people. This piece of accommodation differs from most in the fact that it is ideally situated for both winter and summer activities. This makes it a great place to come all year round. There is also great outdoor space for the children.


  • 6. Hotel Les Fauvettes

    Probably one of the best places to stay if you are on a budget. The hotel is located right at the heart of the village of St Leger Les Melezes and has an authentic French feel to it. The hotel is also extremely comfortable and gives you easy access to numerous activities in the area.



  • 7. Bed & Breakfast – La Combe Fleurie

    Situated on the edge of a medevil village this bed and breakfast has a fantastic range of facilities including a huge dining room, wood burning fire and a sunbathing area. The bed and breakfast is a new build and has become one of the most popular accommodation places in the area. Prices are very reasonable and the hosts put on a range of fun and games. A place with a good atmosphere.


  • 8. Camping – Ancelle

    This is more of your traditional type of camping site however it is extremely popular summer time and see’s visitors from all over the world. Entertainment is excellent and the whole place has a very tranquil feel to it.




  • 9. Gite – L'Aventure

    The last place in our list is L'Aventure. This beautiful place built in the 1960's can hold between 4 to 10 people and has a very homely feel to it. This place differs from most gites as it allows for visitors to cook their own food and features its very own games room. Visitors are also encouraged to play the instruments held within the lounge area. So if your into your live music then this place could be for you.
