Listen to the satisfying crunch of snow beneath your feet as you trek through pristine winter wildernesses under the deep blue skies and sunshine of the Southern French Alps! Snowshoeing has to be one of the best ways to explore the mountains in winter. Have a look at our snowshoeing page to find out more about it.

Every week throughout the season we have a programme of guided snowshoe walks and can tailor make you a snowshoeing holiday with as many or as few snowshoe walks as you like and even mix and match it with other activities. This formula is suitable for small groups or couples who want a flexible winter activity holiday! Have a look at our suggested tailor made packages below.

If you are an individual or couple and want to book on to a group trip, then please have a look at our fixed date trips. These trips are aimed at people with an average level of fitness - perfect for regular gym goers, dog walkers, runners or hill walkers wanting an active week in the winter wilderness!

We can also accommodate large groups of snowshoe walkers. We have a range of group accommodation from chalet hotels to dormitory style gites. They are not all listed so please contact us for information.

All the guides we use are qualified accompagnateurs en montagne or UIAGM high mountain guides (depending on level of route) and will make your safety and enjoyment their top priority.

There are hundreds of beautiful snowshoe walks to choose from and although we have a suggested itinerary in place our guides will adapt this to make the most of the conditions of the day. You can walk through forests, over frozen lakes, across open snow meadows, up to a summit, over a col or along the valley floor with the mountains in all their winter glory towering over you. You can even go out for a moonlit snowshoe.

All the snowshoeing holiday packages suggested include:

• 4 nights (for long weekend breaks) or 7 nights accommodation with a choice of bed and breakfast, self catering, half board or full board accommodation.

• Guided snowshoeing - for a weeks holiday this is usually 3 half days and 2 full days guided snowshoeing and for the long weekend it is usually 2 half days and 1 full day. (see individual holiday offers for detail)

• Snowshoes and poles

• Choice of transport options for all fixed date group trips transport and transfers from Gap train station are included but for tailor made trips we leave this option flexible.

• Maps and advice for things to do in your spare time and self guided snowshoe walks that are safe to do by yourself.

Please note that for tailor made trips this formula can be adapted to suit you.

Transport and Getting Here

All our fixed date group trips include a transfer from Gap train station and transport to and from all the scheduled snowshoe walks.

Unless you are joining our fixed dates group trip where transport is included, we highly recommend you self drive rather than let us drive you to and from the snowshoe walks as the area has so much to offer and for you to explore in your free time.

When you arrive at your accommodation we will meet you to explain the week and give you maps and directions for getting to the guided snowshoe walks as well as suggestions of self guided snowshoe walks and things to do in your free time. They are all easy to find so don't worry about getting lost!

However, if you would like a quote for a transport included holiday, please just let us know when you make your enquiry. For large groups of 6 or more people it can work out more cost effective and practical for us to arrange your transport so it is worth asking.

Example 8 day Snowshoeing itinerary

Explore the winter wildernesses of the Champsaur and Valgaudemar valleys in the Southern French Alps. Situated on the edge of the Ecrins National Park this hardly visited region is a rare winter paradise for walkers and snowshoers.

Have a look at this example itinerary for a taste of what the area has on offer. In reality we would adapt the itinerary when you are here to make the most of the conditions of the day, but this will give you a good idea of what to expect.

Example 5 Day Snowshoeing Itinerary

Need a quick getaway for some fresh air, sun and exercise in the snow?

Take a long weekend and spend it exploring the winter alpine wildernesses of the Southern French Alps on snow shoes!

Listen to the crunch of fresh snow beneath your feet as you trek through pristine snow fields, under snow laden trees, over mountain cols and along valley floors... marvel at frozen waterfalls and streams and spot the ibex and chamois as they frollick in the snow.

The Ferme D'Emile bed and breakfast is an old traditional Champsaurain farmhouse that has been lovingly restored by Dominique and Jean-Marie. It is situated in the tiny village of Les Forestons overlooking the Champsaur valley.

The Adventure Youth Hostel is a superb dormitory style private property with a large communal dining area with open fire, a games room and private garden. It sleeps up to 40 people in various sized dormitories from 4 - 8 people. Minimum group size of 12 per booking.
