Kayak the Alps - Intermediate trip
From 599€ per person for a week's intermediate white water kayaking in the Southern French Alps. A progressive course taking you from the comfort of a grade II river to the thrill and excitement of grade III / IV white water rapids on stunning alpine rivers.

All Prices Include:

7 nights accommodation in a choice of half board youth hostel or budget camping accommodation.
•
5 half days guided kayaking on a variety of rivers (see example itinerary) with fully qualified and experienced kayak instructors. Instructor ratio for grade III+ rivers is 1:4.
•
All equipment (kayaks, paddles, wetsuits, helmets, buoyancy aids etc)! You can bring your own kayak and personal equipment if you prefer.
•
Transport to and from the kayaking sessions
•
Return transfers from Gap train station.
From grade II to grade V all within an hour of each other....! This area has a huge amount of variety in a relatively small space!
Take in the dramatic mountain scenery, and beautiful sunshine as you paddle the lovely clear water of alpine rivers!
The week will start with an intensive session on our grade II /III slalom course on the Drac which will give you and the instructor the opportunity to gauge your level and plan the rest of the week accordingly.
After the first session your instructor will plan an itinerary to make the most of the local rivers, show you the best play spots and push you to your potential. A great way to explore the rivers of the Southern Alps in all their glory and have lots of fun!
Paddle the Drac Noir (grade IV), the Drac Blanc (grade III+), the Drac (grade II - IV), the Severaisse (grade III - IV), the Bonne (grade IV - VI), the Souloise (grade IV), all draining the snow and glacier melt from the largest mountains in the Southern Alps in the Ecrins National Park. Or travel a little further for the Durance (II - IV), the Ubaye (grade III - IV) or the Guil (grade III - IV).
And you won't be fighting with a million other paddlers or rafters for the best play spots because unlike our neighbour, the Briancon / Embrun area, we are a very well kept secret.
All our kayak instructors are fully qualified to French and European standards and are all well traveled and experienced kayakers.
For your free day we have a range of other activities you can choose from so you can really make the most of your stay in the Alps. Try
canyoning,
rock climbing,
via ferrata,
mountain biking..... and more.
Suitable for intermediate paddlers. All paddlers must be competent on grade II rivers and be able to ferryglide and break in and out of eddys.
Children must be aged 12 or over and all participants must be able to swim.

Please note this holiday is subject to a minimum group size of 4 people. If for any reason we don't have sufficient numbers, you will be offered the choice of paying a supplement to cover the difference in guide fee, a revised itinerary or a full refund.
We have put together an example kayaking itinerary for you so you can get an idea of how your week in the Alps could unfold.
But it is not set in stone and we will adapt it to suit you.
It is designed to be progressive so that by the end of the week you are taking on bigger grade water and are hopefully more in control of the river than it is of you!!

The campsite is a small family run site situated in a pretty alpine village against a spectacular mountain backdrop. Basic but clean facilities and centrally located for the kayaking, this is the perfect place to stay for an outdoory kayak week!!

The youth hostel is newly refurbished in a high quality, chalet style and has a range of bedrooms from doubles to 6 person dormitories. It has great communal facilities including a lounge with open fire and leather sofas, TV room, dining room and bar with mountain views and children's area. The food is very good with a choice of menus. Centrally located for the kayaking, this is the perfect place to stay for an Alps kayak week!!
