Igloo adventure.

We had been looking forward for weeks to spending the night in the Igloo. We were told before we arrived that there may not be enough snow. Sally told us that it was OK!!

We went to the top of the chairlift and waited until everyone had gone. Only those staying the night were there, it was very quiet. First we did some sledging. When everyone was ready we went on a short hike up a path to the top of the mountain to see the sunset. It was amazing, everything was pink and red. When we got back down we had a lovely meal in front of a real burning hot fire in the lodge. Everyone was very friendly. All the children eventually fell asleep in front of the fire.

After dinner we set off to the igloos. The igloos looked like mounds of snow; at the front there was a short tunnel that led to the heart of the Igloo. The tunnel was easily big enough for the children but my Dad had to squeeze through! At the end of the tunnel there was a large step up into the sleeping part of the Igloo. There were candles at the back, it was beautiful. Luckily the candles did not melt the thick snow. Behind the candles were little holes with pictures. There was a very thick plastic covered mattress for us all to sleep on. Until we got into our mega- sleeping bags we were freezing!! But very soon, when we snuggled together, it got warm and soon we were all asleep. It was very peaceful and quiet and the next thing we knew Bob was waking us up for a hot chocolate and French bread breakfast.

I will never forget the time I slept in the igloo.
