Trail Gapen'cimes 2008 par stephanesports

The Eidelweiss 48km and 3000m of ascent - a tough but beautiful trail marrying Provence with the Alps including stunning ridge, forgotton villages and wild terrain - some technical sections. All finishers of the Eidelweiss race receive 2 qualifying points for the Trail de Mont Blanc. Have a look at the map of the route.

The Cretes 25km and 1500m of ascent- an amazing run with good consistent climb, stunning ridge and rolling descent. Have a look at the map of the route

The Breche 12km and 750m of ascent - a great route accessible to runners and walkers alike with a more direct ascent to the ridge. Have a look at the map of the route.

All the trails are way marked (no navigation requirements) and there are refreshment stops providing soft drinks and snacks such as dried fruit, biscuits and bananas. Safety and security are well managed with first aid posts strategically positioned around the courses and a red cross tent at the arrival. So all you have to do is turn up and run!

There are no kit restrictions so you can wear whatever you like and you don't need to carry any of your own security or safety equipment.

The ambiance is friendly and supportive with most participants in it to finish rather than win. It really is a fantastic running experience! Have a read of my blog article about the 25km Cretes race in 2011.

trail running in the French Alps

The Eidelweiss 48km and 3000m of ascent

A tough but beautiful route marrying Provence with the Alps. The course starts in the centre of Gap in the pretty 'Place aux Herbes', takes you up to the spectacular Charance ridge with views over to the Ecrins, down to the forgotton village of Chaudun and around a wild uninhabited valley and back up to the Pic de Gleize before a final and wonderful rolling descent back to Charance.

There are technical sections in this trail and with nearly 50km and 3000m of ascent it is a trail for seasoned mountain, fell and trail runners looking for a challenge only!!

The Cretes 25km and 1500m of ascent

The Cretes is the perfect length and ascent for a beginner trailer. It is long distance with enough ascent to make it a really good challenge without entering into the extreme trail running distances!

Whether you are a novice or seasoned trailer, the Cretes is probably one of the most beautiful trail routes you will ever do.

With a gradual warm up, tough but fun ascent , amazing ridge run and gentle rolling descent you couldn't ask for a more perfect run in the mountains!

The Breche - 12km and 750m of ascent

Open to runners and walkers, The Breche trail is the perfect opportunity to taste the trail experience.

Despite it's relatively short distance, this is still a good run with a tough ascent. The rewards, as with the rest of the Gapencimes trails are worth it though!

The route starts in the Charance with a direct climb up to the ridge and of course a run along the famous stunning Charance ridge before cutting off down to make a circuit back to the start.
