Start in the snow capped mountains of one of the most dramatic mountain ranges of the French Alps, the Ecrins, and end up in the lavender fields of Provence. A spectacular mountain bike ride with varied scenery and a range of routes for all levels from beginners to experienced bikers.

Bike hire, GPS hire and transfer options at the start and finish of the route are available as extras.
The route starts off in the Champoleon valley with the dramatic mountains of the Ecrins massif all around you. The golden eagles, marmots, chamois and ibex will be watching you with curiosity as you descend the mountains and traverse the magnificent Champsaur and Gapencais valleys.
All your hard work will be rewarded as you arrive in Le Buech as the scent of lavender wafts past your nose. The final destination is the site of the Meouge gorge - a beautiful conservation area in the heart of Provence.
With a choice of technical single track, spectacular mountain ridges with panoramic views, easy forest trails traversing beautiful alpine woods and meadows, river and lakeside paths, tracks and canal paths ..... this route can be adapted for families through to serious single track mountain bikers.
When you make your reservation, we will ask you about your level and put together a suitable route for you but expect to be doing between 18 and 48 km with between 500m to 2000m of up and down per day. For children the minimum age recommended is 10 and they must be capable of riding for 2 - 3 hours per day.
Accommodation
You will start off in a great
Auberge in the Ecrins where Laurent and Stephanie will make you very welcome and also go through your mountain biking route with you in detail.
After that we will book your accommodation in a variety of bed and breakfasts and hotels depending on the exact route of your journey. We have visited and checked all the accommodation we use to make sure it is up to standard and that you will be well looked after.
Accommodation is all based on a half board basis with 2 people sharing a room.
Transport and Baggage
We will transfer your baggage each day so you only need to carry a day pack.
For getting to the start and back from the end of the ride, there are various possibilities. You can drive, leave your car at the Auberge and get a transfer back at the end of the ride. Or you can get the train to Gap, a transfer to the Auberge and then get the train back from Sisteron at the end of your ride either back to Gap or on to Marseille.
The closest train station to the start of the ride is Gap train station which has rail links from Paris, Marseille or Grenoble and the closest train station to the end of the ride is Sisteron which has rail links back to Gap or on to Marseille.

The Alps to Provence is a fabulous mountain biking experience taking you from the snow capped mountains of the Ecrins to the lavender fields, apricots and peaches of Provence.
There are several variations and choices of route for all levels of mountain bikers and it is even possible for the same group to have different routes that end up at the same accommodation each night.
