The Accommodation
The
Bayard Centre is a great place to stay if you want an easy run or stroll straight from your door with mountain views. And for golf enthusiasts, you are of course on the edge of an 18 hole golf course!
The rooms are all newly renovated and though basic are clean and comfortable and have ensuite facilities. You will be in dormitory accommodation sharing with up to 6 other people. It is possible to upgrade to a private room.
There is a bar and good restaurant with local specialities. There is also a sun terrace.
The centre is situated on a fabulous 18 hole golf course which is also great for walking or running around. There are waymarked circuits with exercise stations if you want a warm up run before the race. You are also 10 minutes drive from the medieval village of St Bonnet where there is a traditional market on Monday morning. We will be arranging visits to this. Have a look at the activity list.
The ambiance is fun and friendly and the race will normally be the talk of the table - and maybe a bit of golf talk too!!!
Race day
We will collect you 45 minutes before the start of your race (6:15 for Eidelweiss and 8:00 for Cretes and Breche racers) to give you time to have that last pee and warm up before you set off.
Once the runners have set off, we will take supporters in the bus up to the walk in to the ridge. This is the best place to be to watch the runners as you get a good view, there is a fun ambiance and there is also a refreshment stop for the runners. All three races pass through this point so it is strategically good too! The walk takes about an hour for the average person. We will arrange an appropriate time to collect you and take you back down in time to watch the finishers.
After there is a lunch provided by the race organisers (both supporters and runners will have a lunch ticket with this package) and then there is prize giving.
If you have booked an afternoon sauna or steam room we will drop you off for that. Otherwise we'll arrange a suitable time to take you back to your accommodation for a well deserved evening meal and sleep!!
Organisation
When you make your booking we will ask you which trail you would like to do or whether you are a supporter and you can choose what you want to spend your Gapencimes points on.
All you need to do after that is get your medical certificate. All race participants must provide a medical certificate stating they have no contra-indications for participating in a long distance mountain running race competatively (we will need this two weeks before the race). Then you just need to arrange how you are going to get to Gap and we will look after the rest.
When you arrive, we will collect you from Gap train station and take you to your accommodation where we will give you your race entries and go through the organisation of the weekend with you. We will also give you ideas of local walks and information about where you are staying so you can do your own thing when not on organised activities or racing!
Getting here
Gap is a local train station on the SNCF train line. It has rail links from Marseille and Grenoble, which are accessible by plane or Eurostar and TGV from the UK. There are also rail links from Valence and Aix-en-Provence TGV stations which link in with the Eurostar.
There is also an overnight sleeper train from Paris which is a popular mode of transport for a short weekend as your traveling time is spent sleeping! This train leaves Paris at 22hrs and arrives in Gap at 7am giving you a full extra day to enjoy yourselves! You can either fly to Paris or get the Eurostar.
Please note we will put up the timetables for the local trains and overnight sleeper as soon as they are released 3 months before so you can plan your journey. For the overnight sleeper, it is advantageous to book in advance to get cheap tickets (cheapest tickets are 20€ for inclining seat and 35€ for a bed with 60€ for first class bed).
